PhDr. Ivan Gabal  
* January 15, 1951, Prague

Member of Parliament of the Czech Republic, sociologist. Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee, member of the Security Committee. Elected in 2013, independent on behalf of  KDU-ČSL (Christian Democrats).  

Mr Gabal graduated from the Charles University in Prague, major in sociology (1975). In 1976 to 1990, he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences and is one of the founders of the Circle of Independent Intelligence and Civic Forum established in 1989. He also managed the Department of Political Analysis under the Office of President Havel. Since 1994, Mr Gabal has been managing two companies focused on sociological analysis - GAC spol. s.r.o.  and Gabal Analysis & Consulting, which have carried out a number of unique projects in the area of security and defense, ethnical affairs, education, regional development, environment, NATO and EU. 

Mr Gabal is married. His wife, Ms Jana Hybášková, is the EU Ambassador in Baghdad, Iraq. Mr Gabal’s priority is his work at the Parliament, in particular the preparation and implementation of defense and security policy, development of the Czech Army and supervision of secret services‘ work.
